About the role

The IT Systems Administrator ensures the availability, reliability, and security of our server infrastructure ecosystem. The System Admin will provide technical leadership on a team of skilled analysts and support technicians.

Reporting to the Head of Enterprise Services, you will have hands-on system administration and manage the day-to-day operations of a comprehensive range of IT support services, creating a responsive, reliable, & resilient environment. This role requires extensive knowledge & experience across infrastructure, networking, security, and end-user computing.

Job Summary

 

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Role and Responsibilities

• Software / Applications:  Installations, Troubleshooting, Testing, Updates & Upgrades as required. 


• Networking:  Setting up Network connections/Devices, Panel patching, Troubleshooting connectivity issues.

• User / Sys Admin:  Managing & Creating AD Accounts, Mailboxes, Distribution Groups, AD Permissions, Cisco Phones, Access to Services, Cloud & Local Applications.


• Hardware:  Troubleshooting, Maintenance, Installations & Upgrades for IT equipment including PC’s, Servers, Laptops, Phones, Storage Devices, Printers, & Scanners etc. 

• Purchasing, evaluating and testing hardware, software, components and peripherals. 


• Maintaining and updating Hardware and Software inventory. Asset tagging of IT equipment. 

• Logging & Dealing with any issues in the IT Helpdesk System; taking ownership of faults to resolution and escalating any unresolved issues to other teams when appropriate.  


• Create/Update documentation; develop a knowledge base of solutions, problem escalation and resolutions. 

• Troubleshooting daily operation as an escalation point for IT Helpdesk at the Head Office and Remote Sites; providing both deskside and remote support to Users & Devices when applicable.


• Requires 24x7 production support and on-call rotation.

• Provide capacity planning, best practices and performance monitoring to sustain and improve platform availability and efficiency. 


• Proven experience working with high-availability and disaster recovery architectures and processes 

• Engineer, assess, and review future directory architecture solutions, 3rd party directory management tools/applications and implement life cycle maintenance processes. 


• Maintain servers in accordance with documented security standards

• Coordinate service/support needs with Vendors, Technical Support Engineers, Application Support Engineers, and the Infrastructure Team through effective partnership, collaboration and communication. 


• Conducts performance tuning, problem resolution, server security administration, capacity planning, policy administration, change management, disaster recovery, and systems analysis.

• Provide technical and project leadership across a diverse team for multiple Infrastructure  programs and projects.

• Undertake tasks delegated by management


• Ensure all communication adheres to the GDPR policies


• Work with own initiative and as part of the wider team


• Understand and comply with the Company’s Health & Safety policy & procedures


• Carry out any other duties as required by Company management

 

The ideal candidate should have previous IT Support experience in a networked environment and must have a good understanding of MS Windows (W7/10/11, 2016/2019), MS Office 365, and TCP/IP networking protocols.  VMWare vSphere, Azure, Exchange 2016 / 365, and Active Directory experience are preferred.

It is essential that the person is organised, disciplined, well presented with a mature outlook.   You must also be flexible, enthusiastic; self motivated and have the confidence in your own abilities with a high level of integrity and discretion.   

We are looking for someone who is quick to learn new skills and be able to solve problems they have not seen before, by researching solutions in the Helpdesk System or Internet.   Attention to detail and the ability to work on own initiative and under pressure are vital.  

You need to have a full driving licence and be able to get to Livingston on a daily basis.

About the location

Neilson Square is the home of our original warehouse and distribution centre, as well as many head office functions. Situated in Livingston, our site is in-between Edinburgh and Glasgow and very easily reached by car and public transport.
